Founded in 1984, Photograve started as a subsidiary of a long running Tool and Die manufacturer based in Brisbane, Australia. Photograve quickly earned a reputation for excellence in custom nameplates, plaques, signage, and precision engraving. The name “Photograve” was born from photo-engraving, the specialised process we used to create high-quality nameplates.
Expansion and Evolution
Over the coming decades, Photograve grew steadily, becoming a trusted provider of custom nameplates, plaques, signage, and precision-engraved products. The company also expanded into digital printing solutions to meet the evolving needs of its clients. While the name Photograve became well known in the industry, it still causes confusion today—often leaving people guessing at its true meaning.

After decades of growth and innovation, we’re excited to announce that Photograve is now PhotoEtch—a name that better reflects who we are and what we do. While the name Photograve is well recognised within the industry, let’s face it—the word “Grave” carries some unfortunate connotations.
